Basket Dog Muzzle

The Basket muzzle is for all breeds including Greyhound puppies. It is generally not for Greyhounds over 40 lbs. The Basket muzzle is semi-soft vinyl ribbed cage plastic and is non-restrictive which allows your pet to drink liquids, breath easily and pant while exercising.

This muzzle is available only in a “gold tone” color. The headstall loop (nylon web strip) fits around the head and ears. The loop has a “quick-snap” connection for an adjustment below the eyes and nose. A secondary “snap-out” ribbed vinyl nose guard provides additional nose clearance of ½” on most sizes. It also aids in restricting undesirable eating habits when the secondary nose guard is in place.

A "stool guard" is optional for restricting undesirable eating habits.  Muzzles are beneficial in restricting the licking of abrasions and healing wounds.

MUZZLE RETURN POLICY: If the muzzle ordered does not fit correctly; we will allow a one (1) time exchange at no charge. We request you  pay all incurred shipping costs.  The return muzzle must be in new re-saleable condition.  An exchange must be made within 15 days after receipt of the original muzzle order.  Please email us with our original order number and pertinent information regarding the request for an exchange.  We will issue a RMA (return material authorization) number.  We will not honor an exchange without our RMA number and no later than 15 days after receipt of the original order.

GENERAL FIT/SIZING INFORMATION:

1. Nose & Snout Clearance – The muzzle should rest approximately ½” to 1” under the eyes on the snout. The end of the nose clearance should be greater than ½” between the nose and muzzle. (The nose muzzle clearance can be as much as 1.5” longer, in certain sizing situations) The sides between the muzzle and snout should average ½” - 1” on each side of the mouth. The under the mouth clearance will be greater in size due to the shape of the muzzle. (The under mouth muzzle clearance provides for panting while exercising and drinking liquids)
2. Circumference (mouth/snout) – This is the measurement around the snout (Outside Diameter) below the eyes where the muzzle will rest. Compare this measurement with each specific muzzle selection.
3. Headstall Strap (loop) – Run a “tape measure” starting at one eye and follow around the ears to the other eye.  Compare this measurement with the “Headstall loop” specific selection.
4. Correct Fit – Muzzles are adjusted for final fit with the “buckle” or “quick-snap” attachment. Be certain the muzzle does not touch either the eyes or nose when fitted. The muzzle can be attached or removed by simply pulling the headstall loop on or off around the ears. If the dog tends to remove the muzzle by scraping against objects, or with paws; it may require a tighter fit. If the dog persists in removing the muzzle; a “security strap” can be ordered for attaching the muzzle to the collar.

BASKET MUZZLE SELECTION:

MUZZLE EXAMPLES: (Confirm your measurement process before you order)

Example 1 – Saluki, Female, 50 lbs

1. Nose Length – 4-1/2” long from base of eyes to end of nose. Deduct 1” from the 5” length needed below the eyes and allow at least ½” clearance at the end of the nose. (Needs muzzle length of approximately 3”)
2. Circumference – 9-1/2” measured around the nose below the eyes.
3. Headstall Loop Length – 14” measured from eye to eye.

The comparison of measurements will size this dog for a “small” Greyhound Muzzle or #7 or #8 Basket Muzzle.

Example 2 – Dachshund, Male, 26 lbs.

1. Nose Length – 2-1/2” long from base of eyes to end of nose. Deduct 1/2"” from the 2-1/2 nose length needed below the eyes and allow at least ½” clearance at the end of the nose. (Needs muzzle length of approx. 1-1/2”)
2. Circumference – 6-1/2” measured around the nose below the eyes. (Needs at clearance of 7-1/2”)
3. Headstall Strap Length – 9” measured from eye to eye.

The comparison of measurements will size this dog for a “number 3” Basket Muzzle. You will note that the dog only needs a 1-1/2” long muzzle. However, he has a 6-1/2” circumference snout and will need a #3 muzzle for adequate muzzle/snout side clearance.
